About Gregg Kreutz
“For me, painting is an opportunity to learn what is meaningful. Each picture is a visual separation of the highly significant from the less significant. Painting is really a window into the essential.?–G. Kreutz
Gregg has been involved in painting and drawing throughout his entire life. He pursued his formal education at New York University and the Art Students League of New York after winning a merit scholarship. His influential teachers include Frank Mason, Robert Beverly Hale and most significantly, David A. Leffel.
Following his training at the League, he won the best of show at the Washington Square Outdoor Art Show and was immediately recognized by galleries. His one man shows have been held at Grand Central Galleries, The Fanny Garver Gallery, the Newport Art Association, and the Hilligoss Gallery in Chicago. Currently, he is represented by Trailside Galleries, Quidley & Company, Hilligoss Gallery, Eleanor Ettinger Gallery in New York, Fanny Garver Gallery in Madison, and The Wendt Gallery in Laguna Beach, California.
Select awards include the Hudson Valley Art Association, Frank C. Wright Award; the Knickerbocker Artists, Council of American Artists Award; the Salmagundi Club, Grumbacher Award and the National Portrait Society of America, Merit Award.
Gregg is accomplished in all disciplines of the representational genre and teaches painting and drawing throughout the country. He has produced videos and books and has contributed articles to publications such as American Artist and Artist International. His writing skills extend to the theater as evidenced in his three published full length plays.
The class will focus on getting to the heart of each painting as quickly as possible. The central visual theme will be discovered through the application of light against dark, dark against light, color against non-color.? This conceptual idea will be immediately conveyed on canvas. A direct alla prima approach will be applied to each subject matter which will develop the ability to work more efficiently.
