Hotel St. Bernard, Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico
Our mission is to provide an exclusive opportunity for exchange between students and outstanding instructors, with national and international recognition, in an intimate environment which maximizes personal artistic growth.
Join us for a week of quality instruction, demonstrations, a private room and meals, nestled in the historical village of Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico. Master painters will provide personal critiques for students while sharing their insights. Models represent our diverse cultural community.
The Hotel St. Bernard (stbernardtaos.com) in Taos Ski Valley, is an elegant European Ski Lodge which will host the first 3 workshops. Drawn to the forest as a child, Nicolai Fechin grew up near the Tartar border in Russia. Soon after moving to the United States in 1923, he was inspired by his passion for the mountains and indigenous people and located his family in Taos. Fechin’s portraits and drawings of Native Americans are among his most recognized works. A select group may be seen in his original, hand carved home which has become the Taos Art Museum.
Upon arrival at the Hotel St. Bernard, you will experience the alpine ambiance. A freestanding fireplace, surrounded by numerous copper pots in the historic dining room provides a natural backdrop for painting. Like Fechin’s home, many wood beams are hand adzed. Host Jean Mayer, along with his professional chefs and staff will serve 3 savory meals daily. The hotel will be open exclusively to participants in the workshop program, providing complete privacy and evening painting opportunities.
New this year!
The first two Salon des Arts will be held at the historic Taos Art Museum, Nicolai Fechin’s home & studio in Taos. They will begin at 4:30pm on Sunday, prior to the beginning of the workshop. The third Salon will take place on Wednesday at 6pm at the Hotel St. Bernard in Taos Ski Valley.
The Salon is an intimate evening of demonstration and discussion by the resident instructor. It is included in your tuition and open to the public by reservation and ticket. Light fare and/or dinner will be included.
“The Fechin Art Workshop for me was in many ways a life changing experience. Being surrounded by such intelligent, giving instructors inspired me to be a better painter and person. I also learned from the group with whom I painted who did not hesitate to share their love for painting and their “tried and true” tricks of the trade… “
— Lisa Baurmeister, California
All workshops are limited to 20 students. Advance reservations are required. Sign up now for a “memorable experience!”
