“Insights into the Arts; Through Demonstration and Discussion” Arthur Bell Auditorium, Harwood Museum

Beginning with David A Leffel’s still life demonstration, the audience quickly engaged in his technical and philosophical discussion.  Bringing his brush strokes to life resulted in a remarkable small painting, exemplifying chariscuro light and shadow.

In music and fine art, gimmicks abound which are cleverly created to capture the audience’s attention.  This and other intriguing topics were discussed in an interactive panel consisting of David A Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, Ida Kavafian, Steven Tenenbom, and Anne Marie McDermott, facilitated by Steve Parks of Parks Gallery.

Concluding Saturday’s event, Sherrie McGraw presented slides from museums and private collections to exemplify her discussion on “Abstract Realism.”  Art historians and artists in the audience were captivated by this contemporary concept which originated in the late 1960’s.
